COMM 403 Blog 4: Framing & You

In this blog, I will explain framing and apply it to a couple of examples. Framing is when you put so much attention on a symbol.

The readings about framing talked framing in the political sense. One reading dealt with Richard Nixon and his speech on how he tried to convince the nation he wasn't a crook. The mistake Nixon made was he kept repeating himself and made him look worse in the process.

The example I would like to use in this situation is from the trial of Robert Blake. Blake was on trial for murdering his wife. The result of the trial was Blake was pronounced not guilty with lack of evidence. During the trial, Blake was framed for this crime because of what was said by the prosecution and what the media had presented. In turn, this turned the audience against Blake up until the verdict was announced.

Another concept of framing is "reverse psychology." This has to do with turning something around and playing it against someone. The following example is from The Whitest Kids You Know involving this concept:
