The Media Effects of Politics

These days you can't turn on the TV, listen to the radio or look on the internet without running across something that mentions politics. Reading a article or watching a news report can change a person's look on politics in a flash. Watching stations like Fox News or MSNBC shows that the station has a certain political viewpoint that they want to get out to everybody. To a person who doesn't know anything about politics, watching or listening to a political program may completely make that person for a certain viewpoint. If someone who has a certain view on politics and watches or listens to the same programs, they may agree or disagree with what is said.

The effects of the media when it comes to politics can be near brainwashing at times. With the recent political turmoil involving the the Health Care bill, some commentators would tell people to go out and protest the bill, while other stations wouldn't even acknowledge that a movement even exists. At times, the media can effectively praise or redicule a politician to the point that people will start believing in it and will either support or not support the politician talked about. Again going back to how stations can be brainwashing, Fox News and some of its commentators had been accused of blaintly influencing people to go out and protest against the government. While it is not always the case that the media directly influences people to go out and do things, its not uncommon. During the time of Fascism and Nazism, they used several types of propaganda to influence its people to go out and do things. Not trying to compare Fox News to Nazis, but it is an interesting comparison. While TV and radio stations can take redicule too far, there is the law talking about free speech. The people have the right to say what they want in this country without getting in trouble.

In conclusion, Media effects on politics can change the publics view on a person or issue facing the country today. If you watch something political with a viewpoint already, then you will either agree or disagree on the topic, like issue not just politics. But if you watch something while remaining netural (that can be tough sometimes), then you may see something different.
